In 2005 our lives changed forever when we moved to Shropshire and Sunnymead Kennels and Cattery. We brought with us two Labradors, a passion for caring for pets and an enthusiasm for hard work.

Sunnymead is set in five acres of the lovely Shropshire countryside on the B4394 between Wellington and Shrewsbury with views to the Wrekin.

Over the years we have remodelled the kennels and the cattery into what we have today. We have cared for pets from the Telford and Shrewsbury area and sometimes ones from further afield.

All our staff are trained in Animal First Aid and Su holds an OFQUAL level 3 award in Canine Emergency First Aid and has successfully completed courses in Dog Handling, Training, Dog Grooming, Micro Chip Implanting and Food Hygiene.

We believe in quality over quantity which means that even though you may see empty kennels we may actually be full. Less dogs and cats mean more quality time for those staying with us.

Viewings

The world has changed since before Covid and we take our security and that of pets staying with us seriously. Our reluctance for “walk-rounds” started during lockdown when it was brought to our attention (through the Licensed Kennel & Cattery Association) that some people were using kennel viewing visits to "case the joint" and then pass on the information to others or to return to steal to order. Our staff were also having to cope with managing a visits of several adults plus children. It is hard to give information and answer questions while trying to keep an eye out for what every member of the party is doing and where everyone is. We do have CCTV but have to consider our own safety and that of our staff.

Viewings are also time consuming and disturb the resident dogs and cats, many of whom are unsettled by people peering into their accommodation or trying to get up close and personal. The happiness of our four-legged guests is paramount. Reluctantly we made the decision that we are unable to offer viewing visits.
If there are questions about the suitability of a dog to stay with us, we are happy to do arrange a "meet and greet" in our car park or for you to book the dog in for a trial day.
